A velvet smooth voice singing “chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose” is always the first thing that comes to mind whenever I see the name Nat ‘King’ Cole. In fact, even though the dapper Cole was often pictured sitting at a piano, and I knew that he had been the leader of a jazz trio, it wasn’t until I came across Nat King Cole by David Mark Epstein that I really understood how important Cole had been to the American music scene.

The federal government is stepping up research into the safety and effectiveness of over-the-counter supplements known as botanicals, including St. John’s wort, elderberry, soy and plant oils, according to today’s Informed Patient column.

The National Institutes of Health is funding five dietary supplement research centers to the tune of more than $37 million for the next five years, primarily through its National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Though the center has been criticized for wasting federal funds on dubious research, scientists delving into botanicals say there is enough evidence of potential health benefits to warrant further study.

Jackie Evancho, America’s Got Talent, Week 14 Official Video

Share/Bookmark
Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" Evancho (pronounced ee-VANE-koe) was born April 9, 2000.

Jackie is a young soprano from Richland Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Evancho sings in the "classical crossover" style of singers such as Hayley Westenra and Sarah Brightman. She studies singing with a voice coach, and also plays the violin and piano.

The vocal sounds of the youngest America’s Got Talent contestant, Jackie Evancho, can only be describe as a truely unique gift.
